Ghana Announces Nationwide Recruitment of Health Professionals: Full Timeline for Nurses and Midwives Released

The Ministry of Health in Ghana has officially announced the commencement of Phase One of its nationwide recruitment exercise for health professionals, offering a major opportunity for thousands of qualified nurses and midwives across the country.

According to a recent press release, the recruitment process will begin on 16th April 2026 following the granting of financial clearance. The initiative is aimed at strengthening the healthcare system and addressing staffing gaps in health facilities nationwide. In total, the government plans to recruit 31,800 health professionals across various categories.

    Breakdown of Recruitment

The distribution of positions is as follows:

    • 15,000 Nurses
    • 10,000 Allied Health Professionals
    • 6,000 Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians
    • 800 Physician Assistants

This large-scale recruitment is expected to reduce unemployment among health graduates while improving access to quality healthcare services across the country.

    PIN Verification Process

As part of the initial stage of the recruitment exercise, all prospective applicants are required to complete their PIN verification within the specified period:

    16th to 20th April 2026

This step is mandatory and serves as the gateway to accessing the application portal.

Regional Application Schedule for Nurses and Midwives

To ensure an orderly and efficient process, the Ministry has introduced a decentralized application schedule based on regions. Applicants are expected to submit their applications according to the dates assigned to their respective regions.

    • Upper East and Upper West: 4th to 5th May 2026
    • Savanna and North East: 6th to 7th May 2026
    • Oti and Bono East: 8th to 9th May 2026
    • Western North and Ahafo: 10th to 11th May 2026
    • Volta and Northern: 12th May 2026 only

Other regions will have a one-day application window each. These include Central and Western, Bono and Ashanti, as well as Eastern and Greater Accra.

Applicants are advised to pay close attention to their specific dates, as missing the scheduled window may affect their chances of being considered.

    Transparent and Competitive Recruitment

The Ministry has indicated that the recruitment process will be decentralized and conducted at the district level based on verified vacancies. It will also be guided by an approved quota system to ensure fairness and equitable distribution of health personnel across the country.

Authorities have assured that the process will be transparent and competitive, giving all qualified applicants an equal opportunity.

    Preparation Guidelines for Applicants

Prospective applicants are encouraged to prepare adequately ahead of the application period. This includes gathering all necessary documents and credentials and ensuring that all information provided during the application process is accurate.

Candidates are also advised to monitor official communication channels for further updates and detailed application procedures.

    Strengthening Ghana’s Healthcare System

This recruitment exercise represents one of the most significant efforts in recent years to improve the country’s healthcare workforce. By employing thousands of health professionals, the government aims to enhance service delivery and ensure that health facilities across all regions are adequately staffed.

For many trained nurses and midwives who have been awaiting employment, this announcement brings renewed hope and a clear pathway to entering the workforce.

    Conclusion

With the timeline now clearly outlined, prospective applicants are expected to act promptly and follow all guidelines to ensure a smooth application process. The success of this recruitment exercise will not only benefit job seekers but also contribute to improving healthcare delivery across Ghana.
