Mr. Assibey explained that the programme was designed in collaboration with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF), which will host and train the personnel at designated military camps across the country. Agribusiness as a Parallel Pathway

While the military training grabs the headlines, the NSA is also advancing an equally transformative agenda in the area of agribusiness. As part of the National Service Transformation Programme, the authority has partnered with key institutions including the World Food Programme, Maphlix Trust Ghana, and the Mastercard Foundation to promote agricultural entrepreneurship among service personnel.

The NSA has already cultivated over 15,000 acres of farmland in Kumawu for rice, maize, and soybean production. Under the HAPPY Programme (Harnessing Agricultural Potential and Productivity for Youth), graduates are deployed to farms and food processing centers to acquire hands-on experience in agribusiness value chains.

This is part of a deliberate strategy to shift national service from being a one-year “wait period” to a period of real economic engagement and skills acquisition. By combining agribusiness training with financial literacy, marketing skills, and digital technologies, the NSA hopes to turn graduates into job creators. So far, public reaction to the new direction of national service has been mixed but largely positive.
